Up to this point all the dealings of God have been the simple application and outflow of His own grace. There were the names in a general way six on one shoulder, six on the other. If the Spirit of God has thus wrought in him, he is separated to God from what he was. Moses, man just got down on his face and began to worship God.] Clearer He had requested the return of God's favour and the renewal of God's share of the covenant. But God, who showed how He would continually remember those He loved, and who could not have a high priest without having their names in honour and love before Him that blessed God has given us much more. True, God is revealed there (Romans 1:20); but the key is wanted to decipher the hieroglyphics, and that key is the Scriptures which are given by inspiration of God.. Take heed to thyself, lest thou make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land where you are going, lest it be for a snare in the midst of thee: But ye shall destroy their altars, break their images, and cut down their groves: For thou shalt worship no other god: for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God ( Exodus 34:11-14 ): Now there are people who have difficulty with God demanding the extermination of the people within the land. Now we must always bear in mind that, though in the Christian walking aright the righteousness of the law will surely be fulfilled, never has Christianity either a legal principle or a legal character: not a legal principle because it flows from the known grace of God to the soul; not a legal character because it is consistency with Christ risen from the dead, not merely with the Ten Command meets. It was bold faith, working in unfeigned love of the people, and with a deep sense of what God is spite of all demerits; yet its highest petition is based on revealed grace, and is therefore the very reverse of human presumption. All the previous dealings of God with Israel had been successive revelations of His attributes, embraced in the name JEHOVAH. Unbelievers fight shy of it, and take certain doings or commands wrested from their context, and without examination as to the reason why. He may justly do it, for all souls are his, and there is a malignity in sin that taints the blood. Unless Jesus Christ comes into their life, unless there comes that change through the power of the gospel, they follow the role model and it goes down from generation to generation to generation.
